Today, I address the final, inescapable reality of this architecture: Fiscal Sustainability.
The outrage machine avoids the math. Politicians demand billions for static concrete walls or infinite asylum processing without explaining how to sustainably fund them. We are governed via financial crises, continuing resolutions, and deficit spending. A policy that bankrupts the future to subsidize the present is not a solution.
As a reminder, my approach is based on the following Operating Principles:
Fiscal Sustainability is the ultimate reality check. No policy, no matter how politically appealing, can survive if the math fails. Security architecture must be funded reliably.
Accountability lies where the risk is taken. The burden of funding immigration enforcement and processing must shift from the American taxpayer to the employers utilizing the labor and the corporations violating the law.
Methods vs. Outcomes. The outcome I require is a self-sustaining security architecture. Treating border funding as an annual political football is a failed method that must be discarded.

I focus on outcomes, not methods. We cannot fund border security through permanent deficit spending. If a method requires socializing the cost of enforcement onto the taxpayer while privatizing the profits of illegal labor, it must be redesigned.
By shifting to a user-funded and violator-funded model, we can build a financially sustainable immigration architecture that pays for its own enforcement and administration.
The Path Forward
The outrage machine relies on your exhaustion. Extremists are locked in a battle of “my way or nothing,” betting that the rest of us—who are just trying to pay bills, raise families, and secure our retirements—will eventually tune out and let them run the show.
